【摘要】:Humanexposuretotoxicmetalspresentinsurfacedustcanresultfromdermalcontactwithoringestionofcontaminateddust.Also,inhalationexposurecanresultfromdisturbingdustparticlesfromcontaminatedsurfaces.Thusstandardizedmethodsforthecollectionandanalysisofmetalsinsurfacedustsamplesareneededinordertoevaluatethepotentialforhumanexposuretotoxicelements.Thispracticeinvolvestheuseofsamplingequipmenttocollectsurfacedustsamplesthatmaycontaintoxicmetals,andisintendedforusebyqualifiedtechnicalprofessionals.Thispracticeallowsforthesubsequentdeterminationofcollectedmetalsconcentrationsonanarea(loading)ormassconcentrationbasis,orboth.Becauseparticlelossescanoccurduetocollectionofdustontotheinnersurfacesofthenozzle,thelengthofthecollectionnozzleisspecifiedinorderthatsuchlossesarecomparablefromonesampletoanother.Thispracticeissuitableforthecollectionofsurfacedustsamplesfrom,forexample:(a)soft,poroussurfacessuchascarpetorupholstery;(b)hard,roughsurfacessuchasconcreteorroughenedwood;(c)confinedareasthatcannotbeeasilysampledbyothermeans(suchaswipesamplingasdescribedinPracticeD6966).Acompanionsamplingtechniquethatmaybeusedforcollectionofsurfacedustfromhard,smoothsurfacesiswipesampling(PracticeD6966).AcompanionvacuumsamplingtechniquethatmaybeusedforsamplingcarpetsisdescribedinPracticeD5438.Procedurespresentedinthispracticeareintendedtoprovideastandardizedmethodfordustcollectionfromsurfacesthatcannotbereliablysampledusingwipecollectionmethods(forexample,PracticeD6966).Additionally,theproceduredescribedusesequipmentthatisreadilyavailableandincommonuseforotherenvironmentalandoccupationalhygienesamplingapplications.Theentirecontentsofthefilterholder,thatis,thefilterpluscollecteddust,istargetedforsubsequentanalysisformetalscontent.Aninternalcapsuleisusedifgravimetricanalysisisnecessary.1.1Thispracticecoversthemicro-vacuumcollectionofsurfacedustforsubsequentdeterminationofmetals.Theprimaryintendedapplicationisforsamplingfromsoft,rough,orporoussurfaces.1.2Micro-vacuumsamplingiscarriedoutusingacollectionnozzleattachedtoafilterholder(samplingcassette),whichisinturnconnectedtoanairsamplingpump.1.3Thispracticeallowsforthesubsequentdeterminationofmetalsonaloadingbasis(massofmetal(s)perunitareasampled),oronaconcentrationbasis(massofmetal(s)perunitmassofsamplecollected),orboth.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.5Limitations8212;Duetoanumberofphysicalfactorsinherentinthemicro-vacuumsamplingmethod,analyticalresultsforvacuumdustsamplesarenotlikelytoreflectthetotaldustcontainedwithinthesamplingareapriortosamplecollection.Indeed,dustcollectionwillgenerallybebiasedtowardssmaller,lessdensedustparticles.Nevertheless,theuseofthisstandardpracticewillgeneratedatathatareconsistentandcomparablebetweenoperatorsperformingmicro-vacuumcollectionatavarietyofsamplinglocationsandsites.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
